The Causeway Coastal route in County Antrim is known as one of the greatest drives in the world! It includes a world heritage site, historic ruined castles, world-class golf and Ireland’s oldest distillery. What’s not to love?
With Autumn coming to an end and the cosy Winter month’s just setting in, why not treat yourself to a Winter retreat at The Bushmills Inn Hotel, just a 3-hour drive from Dublin and an hour away from Belfast - it’s the perfect base to get out and soak up the sights.
So, if you’re taking advantage of our Festive Bed and Breakfast or our Very Special Late Rates, we’ve put together this fabulous itinerary to make sure you get the best our stunning location has to offer!
Day one
Mid-morning
Start off at the Giant’s Causeway, Northern Ireland’s only UNESCO world heritage site. It’s steeped in myth and legend - not to be missed!
After, you can challenge yourself to a thrilling trip across Carrick-a-rede rope bridge. Originally erected by salmon fishermen, the bridge crosses a chasm that is 30m deep and 20m wide.
Or alternatively, if you’re a golf fan, you can tee off your morning at Royal Portrush Golf Club - one of the world’s top 20 courses, lined up to hold The Open in 2019!
Afternoon
Head to our hotel to where you’ll be greeted with a warm welcome and a roaring peat fire. Put your feet up and sip on a glass of malt from the hotel’s private cask before heading to the fabulous Old Bushmills Distillery. Enjoy a guided tour of Ireland’s oldest working distillery with a tutored whiskey tasting session then browse the specialist whiskey shop or head to the 1608 bar.
Evening
You should have worked up quite an appetite after a full day of exploring so enjoy some exquisite cuisine inspired by fresh, locally sourced ingredients. Our award-winning restaurant is one of the most idyllic places to eat in Bushmills.
Then it’s time to bed down for the night in a stunningly decorated guest-room to get some much-needed kip.
Day two
Morning
Head to Ballintoy Harbour to kick off your second day with a bang at the picturesque fishing harbour made famous as a film location for Game of Thrones! Explore the secluded bays, rock pools and sandy coves before stopping off at the nearby village of Ballintoy.
Next up, it’s the iconic ruin of Dunluce Castle that clings to the edge of the cliff. Learn about Dunluce's dramatic history or explore the findings of archaeological digs in an on-site visitor's centre.
Afternoon
Visit the circular Mussenden Temple and Downhill Demesne, perched dramatically on a 120ft cliff edge or spend the afternoon at yet another magnificent golf course nearby at Portstewart Golf Club.
Evening
Round up the day with some tasty Bar Bites in The Gas Bar and a few cocktails by the fire. The perfect place to reflect on your trip or begin planning your next one!
It’s also worth noting that we're making some exciting changes…
Just a quick reminder that our Hotel and Restaurant will be closed from 7th January to 28th January 2019 to allow for major refurbishment works to take place to our kitchen and many of our guest rooms.
Come and visit us in December before we close - enjoy a last minute deal and hog the fire while you can or visit us again in February when we re-open!
