The Bushmills Salmon & Whiskey Festival is rolling back into town this weekend to celebrate the region’s local heritage, culture and produce. The celebration kicks off on Saturday 9th June and continues through 10th June, giving you a two-day treat of fantastic entertainment, live music, delicious food and much more on the Causeway Coast.
This year’s special guest is celebrity chef Paula McIntyre, who has won several awards for fine dining and appeared in numerous TV shows over the years including Ready Steady Cook. She’s also a regular contributor to Radio Ulster and shares her culinary talents with people all over the world.
For the Bushmills Salmon & Whiskey Festival, Paula brings her unique kitchen style to Bushmills in the form of a range of dishes that will be available at the Cookery Theatre in the Main Street car park. She’ll be available on Saturday for live demonstrations, which is something you don’t want to miss if you’ve come to taste some local produce during your visit. On Sunday, a range of local chefs will take to the kitchen to showcase their special talents.
Live music and enthusiastic dance performers will take over most of the town, giving you an excuse to sing and dance the day away with friends and family. If you love the arts and getting creative, you’ll feel right at home at Naturally North Coast and Glens Artisan Market, where you’ll discover a unique collection of the very best handcrafted products in the country.
The festival is an excellent occasion that attracts a healthy crowd each year. The Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council Councillor Joan Baird OBE said: “Bushmills is known across the world for its salmon and whiskey, so we are delighted to work with the local community to celebrate this during what promises to be a terrific two-day festival. The programme of events on offer will bring the story of the village to life, and we are looking forward to sharing it with our visitors over the weekend.”
If you’re in the mood for some whiskey tasting, head over to the Bushmills Distillery and enjoy a unique insight into the history of the country’s oldest working facility. You can also find out more about the salmon life cycle at the Salmon Station on Church Street, where you can enjoy a series of free talks, tours and demonstrations.
The inaugural Bushmills Banquet will also be taking place on the Friday evening to kick start the festivities and tickets were snapped up within a week of going on sale! Organised by the Bushmills Business Association, The Bushmills Inn is one of the main sponsors with guests enjoying a selection of desserts specially created by Head Chef, Gordon Mcgladdery, for the occasion.
The Bushmills Inn will be serving locally sourced dishes throughout the festival or you could try one of their Bushmills whiskey flights whilst enjoying live music in their traditional Irish Bar.
